Can your product remove "old" dog urine stains/odors?

I have an area of carpeting where my dog urinated multiple times. I have tried to clean it with a carpet cleaner, but that is only a temporary solution. Will your product remove "old" pet urine odors? Thanks, Nancy Jackson

Dog urine odor removal

Nancy,

The dog urine odor is not just a cleaning issue. The urine has soaked into the carpet and I'm sure it's into the carpet backing, padding and sub-flooring. To just clean the face fibers will little more than make you feel good you are doing something about the odor.

My recommendation is to locate all the odor source and then saturate the affected areas with white vinegar (that cheap stuff from the supermarket). Let the vinegar sit for a few minutes then blot to remove as much of the vinegar as possible. If you have some kind of extraction tool like a shop vac it will help. This vinegar step will prepare the carpet for the urine odor treatment.

To treat the odor, you might want to purchase an "enzyme" product such as "Nature's Miracle". The carpet will have to be saturated again with the enzyme treatment and allowed to dry. Use enough enzyme treatment to "recreate the crime". The enzyme will eat away the odor causing bacteria.

When the source of odor is gone the odor is gone. It may take a few applications to completely rid the odor depending on how much urine was deposited. If you have the ability it might be best to replace the padding where the dog urinated.

Once the odor is gone, the carpet should be cleaned with a soap free product like Procyon Spot and Stain Remover or Procyon Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner Concentrate as found on my site.

The enzyme process is a slow process but will work if used properly. Professional carpet cleaners would have products better able to deal with urine odor but for the end consumer, a product like Nature's Miracle will work.

Let me know if I can be of any further service.
